Taking Care Of The Exterior Of Your Home

As a homeowner, you want to take good care of your house so it always looks presentable and doesn't end up needing a lot of repairs and other work to be done to it. A good way to make sure you don't overlook anything that should be done around the exterior of your home is to make it a seasonal chore at the start of summer and winter. Follow the outline below to take proper care of the outside of your home.

Summer

At the onset of summer, you want to go around your house and clear out any underbrush from under your bushes. You also want to rake up any leftover piles of leaves left behind from winds or neglect. This will help to cut down on the risk of fire by removing dangerous, dried up brush. While you're at it, make sure there are no dead leaves gathered on your roof.

Keep your hose rolled up and tucked away in a shaded area, especially during the day time. Otherwise, constant direct sunlight can cause the hose to become brittle and cracked.

Check the area around your central air conditioning compressor. It should be clear of weeds and other foliage. Any other debris, wood piles, toys or anything else should also be removed from the nearby area.

Winter

When winter is approaching, you want to prepare your home's exterior for rain, wind and possibly snow. Make sure the drains around your yard are cleaned out and free of debris. This way the rain water will be taken away from your home to avoid flooding.

Make sure the weather stripping around your doors and windows is in good shape. If not, then you want to replace it so rain water won't come in the house. Also, if you can see light from underneath any of your doors that lead outside, replace the current threshold with a new one so as much rain water won't be able to come in.

Trim any trees with large branches that can break and cause damage in the wind, or under the weight and stress of snow.

Have the gutters in front of your property cleaned out. This prevents water from causing flooding in front of your home.

Check your roof for missing or damaged shingles or tiles. Have them replaced or repaired as soon as possible to decrease the development of more damage and leaks.

Clean out your rain gutters. If you allow them to stay full of leaves and debris, then rain water will collect, causing the gutters to become weighed down and possibly endure damage. Also, if the rain water can't access the downspout, it will drip down your house causing stains and possibly water damage. If you need help with your gutter cleaning, contact a company like Nothing But Clean Window Cleaning

Taking the steps suggested above will help you to avoid problems with the exterior of your home and help you to keep it looking good.
