Simple Ways To Get Streak-Free Glass Doors

If you have sliding glass doors in your home, you likely want to keep them clean without leaving behind water spots and streaks. The following tips and tricks will help you accomplish that with ease.

Clean From Top to Bottom

You may already know of this tip, but it bears repeating: when you are cleaning a sliding glass door, you should always start from the top and work your way down. This helps you to catch any drips or spots left behind by the cleaner you are using. If you start cleaning the door from the middle section where it is easier to reach, you might be cleaning this section of the door twice when you get to the top and some of the cleaner drips down into this section. Like windows, stand on a step stool or ladder until you can reach the very top of the door. Begin at the top edge of the door close to the track, move from one side to the other and move your way down the door until you reach the bottom track.

Don't Forget the Door Track

An area of the sliding glass door that many people forget to clean is the track itself. The track can become riddled with buildup and debris from dust, dirt, and soap scum. When this buildup worsens, it can keep the door from opening and closing properly. If the top track has buildup, that might eventually make its way down to the glass part of the door, leaving residue and buildup on the glass itself. When you are cleaning the sliding glass doors, make sure you get the tracks clean as well. A toothbrush is a great tool for cleaning inside the track and removing debris.

Clean the Door With a Squeegee

Among the different tools you will see recommended for having streak-free glass doors, a squeegee is one of the best ones you can use. Your car's windows are not the only type of glass that gets clean with this type of tool. To use a squeegee, you will start by spraying your window cleaner on the door at the top, then moving the rubber part of the squeegee across the top of the door from one side to the other. You will continue doing this as you work your way down the door, working with one small section at a time. It effectively removes dirt and grime without leaving behind streaks.

It is also a good idea to use distilled water if you plan to dilute the glass cleaner you are using on the doors. If you need help, contact a company like Spectrum Building Svcs.
