4 Common Stains Found On Carpets And How To Remove Them

Stains are a common problem with any carpeting, especially for homeowners with pets and children. Luckily, there is a way to solve even some of the most complicated stains without having to hire the professionals. Here are four common stains found on carpets and how to remove them:

  1. Gum: Gum can be found on the carpeting for a number of reasons. It was either stepped on while outside and dragged into your home or fell out of someone's mouth and landed on the carpet. Whatever the case, gum can be difficult to remove, but not impossible. The best way to do it is to place ice on the gum and freeze it, which is going to help it turn solid. Once you do this, you should easily be able to remove most of it. For the pieces that are still stuck, you can cut it out being sure to only cut off the gum and not the entire carpet so it doesn't leave a heavy mark.
  2. Candle Wax: Candle wax is another common problem, especially during the winter months when candles are lit more. If wax drips onto the carpet, it can be difficult to remove because it hardens onto the carpet so quickly, but it can still be removed. The best way to do this is to lay a white cloth on top of the wax and iron the cloth for amount half a minute. The reason you can to use a white cloth is because you don't want color dye to seep onto the carpeting. When you are done heating the area, remove the cloth, and remove the wax with a knife.
  3. Blood: Blood stains on the carpeting is something that happens often to homeowners with kids living in the house. You never know when your kid can get hurt while playing outside and come running into the house with a bloody nose or scrapped knee. When the blood drips onto the floor, you may be worried about it not coming out. However, you can easily remove blood stains with hydrogen peroxide. Simply pour a little bit onto the blood stain and blot it with a paper towel until the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Candy: Crushed candy on the carpeting is another common problem, especially with kids in the house. Once this happens, it can seem impossible to remove the the sticky mess from the carpeting. However, you can remove it by scraping as much of it off as possible with a knife and then soaking the area with a soap and water. Scrub at the area when you pour the soap and water mixture on it and blot at it with a paper towel.

Keep in mind that these are quick solutions for big stains that can happen at any time, but you should still hire professionals at least once a year to keep your carpeting in the best shape possible. For professional carpet cleaning services, contact a company such as Beatty's Carpet Cleaners
